Postgraduate Programmes For 2012 Academic Year

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for admission to the following Postgraduate Programmes to be offered during the 2012 Academic year on either Full Time, Part-Time or by Distance Learning commencing in May 2012. 

PROGRAMMES OF STUDY

  1. DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (PHD) DEGREE BY RESEARCH (FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME ONLY)


    Admission requirements:
    Applicants should:
    1. Possess a relevant Masters degree from a recognised University
    2. Submit 20-30 pages of a Research Proposal on the appropriate subject of interest
    3. Field of Study: Mining Engineering, Business related subjects, Wood Technology, Forestry, Natural Science subjects (i.e., Biology, Chemistry and Physics).
  2. MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION –GENERAL (FULL TIME, PART TIME AND DISTANCE)

    Admission Requirements:
    1. Applicants should hold a first degree preferably with credit or better in Business Administration, Commerce, Accountancy or Economics from a recognised University and have at least two (2) years working experience after graduation.
    2. Applicants holding first degrees with credit or better in areas other than those covered in (a) above, are also eligible, but should have at least three (3) years of working experience after graduation.
  3. MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (FINANCE) (FULL TIME, PART TIME AND DISTANCE)

    Admission Requirements:
    1. In addition to the admission requirements for the MBA (General), applicants who hold professional accounting qualifications in ACCA and CIMA are eligible.
    2. Exceptions to the above would be considered on a case by case basis.
  4. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE (FULL TIME, PART TIME AND DISTANCE)

    Admission Requirements:
    1. Applicants should have obtained at least five (5) “O” levels or better including English Language and Mathematics
    2. Applicants should hold a first degree preferably with credit or better in Business in Accounting and or Finance from a recognised University and have at least three (3) years working experience after graduation.
    3. Applicants holding professional accounting qualifications in ACCA and CIMA, ICAEW, ACA are eligible.
  5. MASTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT (FULL TIME, PART TIME AND DISTANCE)

    Admission Requirements:
    1. Applicants should hold a first degree with credit or better in Human Resource Management, Education, Sociology, Anthropology, Law, Public Administration, Personnel Management, Political Science and Economics from a recognised tertiary institution and have at least two years of working experience.
    2. Applicants holding first degrees in areas other than those mentioned in (a) above would also be considered, but should have at least three years of practical experience.
  6. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN PROJECT MANAGEMENT (FULL TIME AND PART TIME ONLY)

    Admission Requirements:
    1. Applicants should hold a first degree preferably with credit or better from a recognised University and have at least two (2) years working experience after graduation.
  7. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN NATURAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT (FULL TIME ONLY)

    Admission Requirements:

    Applicants should hold a first degree with credit or better from a recognised University in one of the following academic disciplines: Agriculture, Agro-forestry, Conservation Ecology, Forestry, Horticulture, Crop Science, Soil Science, Animal Science, Fishery and Aquaculture, Wildlife Management, Tourism, Business Management, Mining, Geology, Geography, and have at least two (2) years working experience after graduation.

  8. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN BIOLOGY OR BIOLOGY EDUCATION (FULL TIME ONLY)

    Admission Requirements:

    Applicants should hold a first degree in Biology with credit or better from a recognised University and have at least two (2) years working experience after graduation.

  9. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN CHEMISTRY OR CHEMISTRY EDUCATION (FULL TIME ONLY)

    Admission Requirements:

    Applicants should hold a first degree in Chemistry with credit or better from a recognised University and have at least two (2) years working experience after graduation.

  10. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN PHYSICS OR PHYSICS EDUCATION (FULL TIME ONLY)

    Admission Requirements:

    Applicants should hold a first degree in Physics with credit or better from a recognised University and have at least two (2) years working experience after graduation.

  11. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN MATHEMATICS OR MATHEMATICS EDUCATION (FULL TIME ONLY)

    Admission Requirements:

    Applicants should hold a first degree in Mathematics with credit or better from a recognised University and have at least two (2) years working experience after graduation.

  12. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE   (FULL TIME/ PART TIME)

    Admission Requirements:

    Applicants should hold a first degree preferably with credit or better in Computer Science or Information Technology from a recognised University and have at least two (2) years proven work experience after graduation.

  13. MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL.) IN CHEMICAL ENGINEERING (FULL-TIME/PART-TIME)

    Admission Requirements:

    Applicants should hold a first degree with credit or better in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Natural Sciences from a recognised University and have at least two (2) years working experience after graduation.

  14. MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL) IN MINING ENGINEERING (FULL-TIME/PART-TIME)

    Admission Requirements:

    Applicants should hold a first degree preferably with credit or better in Mining Engineering from a recognised University and have at least two (2) years working experience after graduation.

  15. MASTER OF PHILOSOPHY (MPHIL) DEGREE BY RESEARCH (FULL-TIME/PART-TIME)

    Admission requirements:
    Applicants should:
    1. Possess a minimum of Bachelor’s degree with credit or better from a recognised institution.
    2. b) Submit a 20-30 pages of Research Proposal on the subject of interest.

    Fields of Study: Any of the Natural Sciences (i.e., Biology, Chemistry and Physics) subjects with Education, Wood Technology and Forestry.

  16. MASTER OF  PEACE AND CONFLICT STUDIES

    With three (3) Specialisations namely:
    • Human Rights , Governance and Peace Building
    • Human Security and Development
    • Environment, Sustainable Development and Peace
    Admission Requirements
      Applicants should hold a first degree preferably with credit or better in any field of study from a recognised University and have at least two (2) years working experience after graduation.

    Duration of the Programmes

    1. Full Time Basis

      Each programme is designed to run for eighteen  (18) months of which the first 12 months are devoted to course work while the last 6 months to dissertation.

    2. Evening / Part Time Basis

      Each programme is designed to run for two (2) years with the first eighteen (18)   months devoted to course work while the last 6 months to dissertation.

    3. Distance

      The Programmes are targeted at those individuals who cannot engage in Full time, Part time/ Evening programmes due other factors. However, a minimum of three (3) years is designated for each of the programmes.

    METHOD OF APPLICATION:

    1. Application forms are obtainable from the University Cashier’s Office upon payment of a non-refundable fee of K150, 000.00. Applicants using postal or telegraphic money orders should include K3, 000.00 for postage payable to the University Cashier’s Office, Copperbelt University.  Telegraphic money orders should bear the applicant’s full names and address.

      Cash can also be deposited into the Bank Account given below and proof of payment must be provided on submission or collection of the application form:

    2. Application forms can also be downloaded from the University website, Payment of K150, 000.00 should be made at the time of submission, failure to which the application would not be processed.

    CLOSING DATE:

    The closing date for sale of application forms is Friday 26th November 2011 and the deadline for receipt of the same is Friday 24th December 2011.  Forms received after the closing date will not be considered for selection.
