CBU Staffer Excels

As part of the Copperbelt University Staff Development programme, a CBU member of staff in the School of Technology, Mr Felix Ntengwe, was supported and consequently completed a Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering Technology (M Tech) from the University of South Africa where he enrolled in 2006.

Mr Ntengwe, who attained his Masters Degree through research work, began his studies with Dr Peter Mukoma as his first Supervisor in 2006.

In 2007, Dr Naison Mazana took over as the Supervisor/Promoter and Dr Fereshteh Samadi as the Co-Supervisor/Promoter until the completion of the programme. Dr Samadi is the current Chair of Chemical Engineering at the University of South Africa.

In his programme of study, the first year was for the preparation of the proposal and learning research methodologies while the second year was for laboratory research and writing up the Thesis. The third year was used for the review and examination processes.

He went to South Africa in 2008 to defend the thesis at the University of South Africa (Florida Campus) in Johannesburg. The programme encourages industry based projects that are carried out under the supervision of approved supervisors.

Mr Ntengwe's commitment to achieve his goal was seen in the way he found time to teach and at the same time do research work for his Masters Degree.Indeed it took commitment, perseverance and hardwork, the attributes he said contributed to his successful completion of his studies.
