Degree Classification

The degree awarded by the School of Built Environment may be classified as Distinction, Merit, Credit or Pass. Senate decides the class of degree awarded to a student on the Board of Examiners. For the degree of Bachelor of Architecture, the Bachelor of Science degrees in Building, Urban and Regional Planning, and Real Estate, the classfication is determined by the student's Cumulative Weighted Average

Note: These degree classifications are based on the 2009 curriculum and a student starts accumulating points from the third year onwards

Distribution of Marks for Degree and Diploma Pogrammes

  1. In all the courses offered by the School, this distribution of marks shall be as follows;
    1. Degree: Continuous Assessments - 40 % ; and Final Examination - 60%
    2. Diploma: Continuous Assessments - 50 % ; and Final Examination - 50%
  2. Continuous assessment shall consist of such term examinations, exercises and other work whose content and length shall be at the discretion of the Lecturer
  3. The Lecturer responsible for a course may bar a student from sitting final examinations for failure to meet work requirements including poor performance, non submission of Continuous Assessments or poor attendance record
