Currently, the School of Graduate Studies oversees to the efficient running and management of the MBA General and MBA Finance Programmes run by the Department of Postgraduate Studies in the School of Business. The two MBA programmes are run on three modes, i.e., Day, Evening and Distance. The Day programmes targets potential students who register as full time students, i.e., secure study leave and focus solely on their studies for a period of 18 months. The Evening programmes target Executive, Managers and Middle Management personnel who are not prepared to leave their daily job routines but to attend lectures after work. Both programmes are well subscribed.
It is anticipated that a small number not exceeding 20 students will be admitted every year. A minimum of five students, preferably more, will be required in any specialization being offered at Stage III.
In order to become eligible for admission to the Master in Business Administration degree programme, an applicant must satisfy the following requirements.
The programme consists of four stages. The first three stages constitute the taught component of the programme. The fourth stage is a research component, which is conducted over a period of twenty-four weeks. In principle, the first stage is introductory, intended to introduce students to general management and refresh those with prior management knowledge, in preparation for advanced and intensive specialist training.
The second stage develops the theoretical framework of the various functional areas of management and the interface of the business organization with its environment.
The third stage looks at the interpretation of the theory and its application to various real life business situations. It is at this stage that the theoretical background developed at Stage two, is focused on developing advanced knowledge in specialist areas such as marketing, finance, entrepreneurship and management.
At the final (fourth) stage, the students use their training from the first three stages to undertake research in specialist areas of management and demonstrate ability to resolve real life practical problems encountered by the modern Business manager. A research report or dissertation is to be submitted at the end of this period.
