Admission for BSc studies

Requirements for specific programmes shall be verified with individual specialist departments. The following are the general requirements in the School.

To be eligible for admission, candidates shall satisfy the following requirements:

Five GCE ‘O’ Level credits or better in the Zambian School Certificate or its approved equivalent as follows: English Language, Mathematics, and any two of the following subjects: Physical Science or Science, Chemistry, or Physics. Physical Science and Science count as one subject.

In addition, applicants may be required to have GCE ‘O’ Level credits or better in any one of the following subjects:

  • Biology
  • Combined Science
  • Additional Mathematics
  • Geography
  • Geometrical and Mechanical Drawing
  • History
  • Literature in English
  • Human and Social Biology
  • A Zambian Language
  • Commerce
  • Principles of Accounts
  • Religious Education
  • Agricultural Science
  • Computer Science

Candidates who are holders of the of the Diploma in Education or other mathematics and science teaching Diploma of this University or of Institutions recognised by this University may be exempted from the first year of the BSc programme.

Admission for PGDE studies

  • Candidates applying for admission to the PGDE should normally have a BSc degree (with Credit) obtained from the Copperbelt University or any other University in Zambia, Africa or equivalent from abroad, provided that they have acquired a specialisation in any of the discipline in the area of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics.
  • In special cases candidates may also be considered for admission if they provide proof of possessing a relevant degree and working experience.

Admission for MSc studies

  • Candidates seeking admission to the Master of Science degree in the School of mathematics and natural Sciences should normally possess a BSc degree (with credit) obtained from the Copperbelt University or from any other recognised University in Zambia, Africa or equivalent from abroad.
  • In special cases candidates may also be considered for admission if they provide proof of possessing a relevant degree and working experience.

Admission for PhD studies

  • This degree is completed through supervised research and submission for thesis.
  • Candidates seeking admission to the PhD study programme must possess a Masters degree of the Copperbelt university or any other recognised University in Zambia, Africa and abroad.
