Department of Architecture

The discipline of architecture is primarily concerned with the planning and designing of buildings and the subsquent implementation of these designs. As such, Arhitects contribute towards the improvement of our built environment. In order to develop the required design skills, students will undergo extensive training in the principles of design theory, building technology, in relation to materials, construction services and structures.

The role of the architect has changed over the years from exclusive professional, which was mainly at the service of a privileged few to a professional cadre whose services are rendered to the community at large. This has meant that the range od design tasks includes low-cost housing, urban design, village planning, landscape design and environmental engineering

The main coureses offered in the Diploma and Degree programmes are as follows:

Diploma Architectural Technology
This course is designed to produce a technologist to fit middle management in the field of Architecture. A graduate is capable of handling a medium sized building in design, drafting and preparation of working drawing, and and architecture supervision of the project
