SIZThe Surveyors Institute Of Zambia

The Copperbelt Chapter

The Surveyors Institute of Zambia (SIZ) is a body that oversees the surveying profession in Zambia. The professions included are those of Quantity Surveyors, Valuation Surveyors and Land Surveyors. Over the decades, SIZ has been instrumental in achieving many successes in governing the ambits of the profession. The challenges of the construction industry particularly through the mid-80’s and the 90’s gave great challenges to the profession. It was mainly through the hard work of the SIZ that the School of Built Environment (then the School of Architecture and Design) at the University of Zambia at Ndola came into being with aid of the Commonwealth Association for Surveying and Land Economy (CASLE).

The growing needs of the construction industry have inevitably constrained us to think afresh over what our industry must achieve especially that those running it, in the main, are from the Copperbelt University. The lack of continuous professional development has been a major concern. The majority seem content to run on the ‘auto-pilot of old knowledge’. But this must not be so. Developments that have rocked the industry, particularly in the light of increased construction activity, need new thinking ways. Unfortunately, ‘thinking outside the box’ is one gem the construction industry seems to have been denied. The SIZ Copperbelt Chapter will seek to see how to re-align themselves in the face of these great challenges.

Strategically positioned in the heartland of copper, the Chapter wants to make a difference to ensure that developments around about them give them added professional value. Meetings will be held monthly at a given location. The inaugural meeting is billed for Norfred (House) Hotel on 28th June, 2007 at 1800hrs. For those seeking to present future papers, please contact the SIZ Copperbelt Coordinator, Mr. Peter Mukalula at SIZ Chapter or cell 0955 782789.
