The demand and dependence on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) services has steadily been increasing at the University. This is a global phenomena and by no means unique to this University. It has become about by the way ICTs are being deployed to influence and change the business of education.

ICTs are focal management and operational tools through which the university can create:

  • Robust research infrastructure
  • An attractive learning environment
  • Optimise administration
  • Make the university as visible as possible all over the world
The mandate of the Computer Centre at the Copperbelt University is to direct, manage, strategize and develop the application of ICTs at the University to support teaching and learning, research, outreach and professional services, as well as enhance internal administrative efficiency.

The purpose is to provide a wide range of ICT services to all members of staff and students (and eventually to external community). This implies installation and support of necessary ICT infrastructure and provision of technical skills to enable full use of installed facilities. The department supports a variety of business application software, databases, faculty-specific packages, and operating systems. The Computer Centre develops and supports software for use at the university as well as provide front-end support to all staff and students on the use of the available facilities and resolutions to problems encountered by users.

The Centre is also responsible planning, design, installation and maintenance of campus-wide communications network that supports the University’s Intranet and external gateway to access the Internet.
